Join The Fight – Breast Cancer Awareness Stationery

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

“Getting cancer can become the beginning of living. The search for one’s own being, the discovery of the life one needs to live, can be one of the strongest weapons against disease.” -Lawrence Leshan

More often than not, if you ask someone if breast cancer has affected their life in some way, the answer will sadly be “yes”.  Whether it was your own struggle for survival or it was breast cancer affecting your mother, sister, grandmother or best friend, the scary fact is that breast cancer is a very real and serious disease.  There are about 190,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer this year – and that’s only counting American women!  Risk factors for having breast cancer can increase if you’re a woman, and also vary based on your age and genetics.

What do you know about breast cancer?  Are you ready for some scary but real statistics?  One out of every eight women will develop invasive breast cancer at one point in life.  In 2011, 2,140 new cases of breast cancer were developed, meaning breast cancer is affecting men too!  Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American women.  These are truly scary and very sad statistics, which truly add to the need to spread breast cancer awareness and raise funds to help fight back!

Aren’t you ready to join the fight?  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and InvitationBox.com has  teamed up with Doc Milo and Noteworthy Collections to help join the fight against Breast Cancer.  We are now offering a brand new collection of breast cancer awareness stationery which features breast cancer awareness self-inking stamps, weekly calendar tear pads and notecards that help you spread awareness while making a donation to assist in breast cancer research.  A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this stationery collection will be donated to non-profit organizations, like BreastCancer.org.

Each notecard features a trendy design of a fabulous woman rocking her fighting PINK, along with inspirational quotes reading, “Join the fight”, “Save 2nd Base” or “Think Pink”.  Many of the cards automatically come with coordinating sassy envelope liners in leopard print or pink stripes.  We also offer 52-week calendar tear-pads so that you can fight all year long, each day of the week, as well as self-inking stamps and embossers that help fight for a cure.

Check out a few of the amazing items you’ll see in our brand new Breast Cancer Awareness stationery collection and Join The Fight to end Breast Cancer.

Have you chosen your 2012 Halloween costume?  I know I haven’t sat down to browse for the perfect costume yet, but truth be told, Halloween is just a month away, so now’s the time to start searching for that perfect costume – especially if you’ve been a naughty witch or a nerd four years in a row!

Thinking about changing things up this year?  I’ve got a sneak peek for our 2012 Halloween costume shoppers this year, as it appears that the huge trend in Halloween costumes is superheroes!  You’ve seen Captain America, SpiderMan and Batman top the charts for movies this year, and the big screen is now coming to life with kids and adult superhero Halloween costumes.  The most popular costumes seem to be Catwoman, The Avengers, Batman, SpiderMan/Woman, Iron Man, the classic Hulk, Thor and the Punisher.  Get a group of friends together and make it an all-out hero force-field as you head out to party or trick-or-treat on Halloween night!

If superheroes aren’t your thing, there’s definitely other options for 2012 Halloween Costumes to get excited about!  The most popular costumes we’ve seen are Katy Perry, Teen Wolf, Snow White & the Huntsman, Power Rangers, a Panda Bear or fairy tale characters like Snow White, Little Bo Peep or Little Red Riding Hood.  Watch out for social and pop culture costumes this year too – from angry birds to zombies or pop stars.

Spoil Your Pup with Pet Gifts – It’s National Dog Week!

Monday, September 24th, 2012

It’s National Dog Week…how will you celebrate?  Some may take their pup out for an extra walk today, give a few extra doggy treats or treat their dog to a steak bone for dinner?  Or, maybe you’ll be inspired to get a new puppy of your own, (what an exciting idea)!

Believe it or not, National Dog Week began in 1928 by a formal publisher of World Dog Magazine.  I can’t believe they had dog magazines in the 20’s!  The program and celebratory week was created to help educate pet owners on how to care for their furry friend and to communicate pet owner responsibilities as part of the pet community.  National Dog Week is held the fourth week of each September, and it’s a great time to spoil your furry loved one – after all, he is known as “man’s best friend” and certainly a vital family member in your family.

To celebrate National Dog Week, I thought it might be appropriate to dedicate our blog today to all the dogs out there, (and dog owners too)!  You’d think that with a company name like InvitationBox that we’d only have party invitations, but we actually have a special interest in our furry customers, (and their owners), and we offer a complete line of pet gifts and pet products.

If you’re looking to spoil your furry friend, check out our adorable pet placemats which can be personalized with your dog’s name.  They’re vibrant, patterned and themed to coincide with your dog’s special personality – favorites include the “bad to the bone” placemat, princess placemat, animal print placemat in zebra and leopard print or our photo placemats which feature your furry friend’s digital photograph so that there’s no confusion at mealtime.

If you’re looking for party invitations or stationery, we also carry dog return address labels which feature your pet’s photograph and their home address, which are perfect for dog fanatics.  We also have pet birth announcements, pet party invitations and photo pet adoption cards, in case you have a new furry member in your family.

No dog or pet to celebrate this week?  Remember that we also sell My Own Pet Balloons, which are a great gift for that little one who is just dying to get her own puppy, but her family just isn’t ready for that furry addition just yet.  Our pet balloons feature a variety of pets and dog breeds which you feel with helium.  They have weighted feet and even come with a leash so that your child can walk their pet all around the house and yard, just like a real pet.

Check out some of our favorite pet products below and celebrate your favorite puppy this week for National Dog Week!

Show Off, Party Princess!! Water Marble Nail Art

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Have you been browsing the pages of Instagram and Pinterest lately?  If so, you’ve seen one of the coolest trends in girl world come to life lately – nail art!  I personally follow Rockglam on Instagram, which is where I first noticed this trend taking off – as they put forward their most daring, trendy and fun nail polish art designs that made me want to run to my local drug store to try out!

If you have a tween girl, you know how important it is for her to be the star at her party.  While I was browsing Pinterest for girly party ideas today when Istumbled upon the below nail polish art idea, and I thought this would be the perfect craft or activity to do at your daughter’s next birthday party.  Everyone will be stunned that you’ve come up with this ultra trendy and cool idea, and you can try it out ahead of time on the birthday girl, so that everyone will admire her bold fashion choices, and want to try it for themselves at your party!

The technique you’re looking at above actually has a name – water marbling!  You choose the colors and then follow these easy steps to create your own marble affect on your nails…

You will need:

nail polish (2 colors or more)
tape or cuticle lotion
cotton swab or stick
top coat
craft bowl
water
pin

1.  Start with a small craft bowl that you don’t mind getting messy and fill it at least half way with water.

2.  Choose your nail polish colors and begin dropping dots of color into the water, one at a time.  You will notice a circular pattern developing.  Do not touch the pattern until you have finished using all of the color you need.

3.  If you are using white, remember that you might have to double up on the drops for this color, especially if it is a thin polish.

4.  Take a bobby pin or a thin stick and make lines in the nail polish water, (almost like you would do when marbling a cake).

5.  Put a ring of tape around your finger, or cuticle lotion, which will prevent the nail polish from sticking to your fingers.

6.  Once you have the design you want, dip your finger into the water and push your nail all the way down, being careful to keep your nail from hitting the bottom of the bowl.

7.  Keep your nail in the water while you use your cotton swab to pull the excess nail polish design away from your finger.

8.  Pull your finger out of the water and use a makeup brush dipped in nail polish remover to take off any unwanted nail polish on your hands.

9.  Put two clear top coats onto your design.

10.  Repeat!

Did you try out this fun nail polish idea to coordinate your nails with your party dress?

The Bride’s Survival Guide for His Bachelor Party

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

If you are interested in movies at all, you’ve definitely seen The Hangover and Hangover 2, which have instilled and confirmed fear for all brides, whenever they  hear the groom mutter the words, “bachelor party”.  Even if he says it will just be ‘a low-key night out with the guys’, visions of the bachelor party surrounded by strippers, the groom losing his life savings at a poker table in Vegas and finding the groom the next morning with a missing tooth and a tattoo on his face come to mind.

We understand – thinking about the groom’s bachelor party can cause major stress – not just on your own mind but it sometimes can cause stress on your relationship, which is never a good thing right before your big day!  So just how do you survive?

Trust & Communication – Remember that the bachelor party wouldn’t even be happening if you weren’t planning your upcoming nuptials.  You love this man, and trust him more than anyone else in the planet – if you didn’t, you wouldn’t be getting married.  When you begin your wedding planning, talk to the groom calmly about your bachelorette party and his bachelor party.  Decide what each of you have envisioned and come to an agreement on each night’s events.  If you both know the other person’s expectations and concerns, there should be no surprises.

Come Up With New Ideas – It seems like bachelor parties have always been filmed in the movies and rumored to be all out drinking nights with wild and crazy adventures, and of course, strippers.  But nowadays bridal parties are getting much more creative.  Your groom may decide that he would rather have a whole weekend with the guys, be it on a fishing trip, chartering a yacht, going on a camping trip or playing golf all day out at the local country club.  You can even go a bit more low-key with a paintball fight, a wine or brewery tour or a backyard BBQ.

Don’t Sit At Home Waiting – Since when have you ever been the type to sit at home waiting for a guy?  Never, right?  Well, don’t make any exceptions to that rule on the night of his bachelor party.  Treat yourself to a spa day with girlfriends, go out with a bunch of your best friends for dinner and drinks, (but make sure you don’t crash the bachelor party), or have a movie Marathon, (think four DVD’s of Twilight), with your besties.  The longer you sit there wondering what the groom is out doing, the worse you will feel.

Remember Your Turn – Don’t forget that your turn is next!  He may be going out with the guys tonight, but your bachelorette party is going to be just as good as his bachelor party – if not better, knowing your friends!  Show him the same mature attitude that you’d like him to have when you’re out celebrating with the girls.

Gender Reveal Baby Shower Invitations & Ideas

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Boy or girl, which will it be?  Join us at the shower for the reveal and you will see!

Personally I think this is one of the coolest baby shower and pregnancy ideas out there – the gender revealing baby shower!  This means both the mom and dad-to-be keep the gender of their baby a secret until their baby shower.  When they go to the ultrasound to determine the sex of their baby, the parents-to-be ask the doctor not to reveal the sex of the baby, but instead to put it inside a sealed envelope, that they in-turn give to their baby shower host.

The sex of the baby is kept a secret until the baby shower, when it is revealed to all guests, including the parents-to-be.  The most popular way of revealing the baby’s gender is by using cake icing, like this adorable cupcake which features a white question mark made in frosting and has blue filling on the inside, signifying that the parents-to-be are going to be having a baby boy.  I have also seen this done with frosting layers inside the cake – just make sure that there’s no inside filling peeking out on the cake platter!  Another idea is to keep it a secret until the shower, and when the guests walk in, they will be greeted by traditional pink or blue decorations, indicating whether or not the baby is a boy or a girl.

Want to see how it’s been done before, (grab a tissue, ladies)?  Check out this amazing video from Pinterest and Youtube, which shows two delighted parents-to-be finding out the gender of their twins:  Twins Gender Reveal Shower

Thinking about planning a gender reveal baby shower?  How could you not, after watching the amazing video from the link above?!  Our gender neutral baby shower invitations are perfect for your gender reveal shower, and we even have a few gender reveal baby shower invitations that are made specifically for your unique baby shower idea!  Choose the gender reveal cake invitation from Paper so Pretty, which features a half blue/half pink cake and some adorable wording ideas for how to word your shower invitation perfectly.  We also have chic and posh gender neutral invitations featuring expecting couples-to-be with non-gender specific accents in green, yellow, teal and purple.  Themes include baby mobiles, cupcakes, airplanes, teddy bears, baby animals, baby toys and more!

New Doc Milo Stickers & Stationery

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

One of the most popular questions we get from customers is, “What items match my card?” or “Do you have matching stationery or accessories for my party invitation?”.  While most of our products have matching accessory or stationery items, not every vendor offers matching pieces or coordinating ensembles.  Or, sometimes it takes a while before matching accessories are available for our newly popular items.  However, we understand how important it is to have a coordinating ensemble available to you when you are party planning.  From your invitation to your party decorations, party favors and thank you notes after the event, we know you want everything to look perfectly planned and matching.

The great news is that Doc Milo just released a brand new stationery and sticker collection which coordinate with your favorite Doc Milo bridal shower invitations, baby shower invitations and holiday party invitations!  You’ll find folded thank you notes featuring the ever-popular swinging bride, pretty in pink brides, almost married collection, pretty in pink/blue baby collection, cowgirl crib and more!  Each new stationery item features your favorite Doc Milo characters, full of sass, and alternating background, ethnicity and hair colors, to coordinate with your event’s theme, colors and to match the look of the honoree.

One of the coolest things about Doc Milo is that even though they have hundreds of different designs, their color palette, patterns and backgrounds all coordinate.  The brand new Doc Milo sticker collection features these patterned backgrounds, prints, borders and details in fun sticker designs, which you can use in coordination with your party invitations, baby shower invitations, bridal shower invites or holiday greeting cards.  The new sticker designs feature animal print including giraffe, leopard and zebra stripes, brocade and damask prints, confetti dots, contemporary ornaments and weaved or gingham patterned backgrounds which match your Doc Milo stationery or invitation.  The new stickers are square in shape and two inches square in size.  They are perfect for adding a little sass to everything you do – use them as envelope seals, return address labels, gift tag stickers, party favor stickers or as a chic way to claim your belongings at school or at home.

Murder Mystery Party Invitations & Ideas

Monday, September 17th, 2012

“The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.” – Sherlock Holmes

Tired of the same old Halloween party year after year?  Why not spice things up this Halloween season and ditch the old “come over and party” idea for a murder mystery party instead!  A customer placed an order for a murder mystery birthday dinner party and I couldn’t help but wish I was attending a party like that for Halloween!  A murder mystery party can be held at any time of year, however being that Halloween is right around the corner, it’s a great way to allow your guests to still come in costume and character and participate in a unique party theme that they probably have never took part in.

Murder mystery parties are very popular right now, and believe it or not, I actually found a few companies out there that specialize in helping you create your murder mystery event.  Some sell murder mystery party planning kits, which make plotting your party’s murder even better, (and easier)!  I even found a website, www.dinnerandamurder.com, that has a built-in RSVP website as part of the murder mystery kit, which makes planning your even even easier.

If you’re thinking of planning your own murder mystery party, we have some tips for you to make sure it’s a success:

-Invite guests that are the life of the party – the more outgoing the guests, the more fun the murder mystery will be!

-Make sure the host is well informed and can keep the murder mystery theme going throughout the entire party – ask for help if you need it and have a few people in on the murder mystery

-If you don’t want to do scripts, you can let your guests pick their own characters

-Make sure clues are obvious for guests to find, but not overly easy to figure out – create balance

-Make it more fun by choosing a time period for your murder mystery, (the 20’s and 50’s are the most popular – and spooky)!

-Have a prize for the last person standing, or the person who figures out the murderer in the group

Remember that planning a murder mystery takes a bit of time and the participation of your guests.  You’ll want to send your murder mystery party invitations well in advance, (think 6-8 weeks ahead) so that you can receive your RSVP’s and make plans for the evenings festivities and deadly events!  The party will only work if you have enough guests to participate, however we don’t suggest any more than twenty guests, as things can get a bit confusing, or the party theme can get lost in all of the hype.

Looking for the perfect murder mystery invitation to set the theme?  To go along with our crime scene tape at the top of our blog, we have one amazing murder mystery invite by Noteworthy Collections that is extremely popular for murder mystery events.  It features an eerie white chalk drawing of a murder victim, who is lying below crime scene tape!  Pair it with a matching reply card and party favor sticker and create a murder mystery even that they won’t be able to forget.

Warning: your murder mystery party may just become a party-favorite…once you host one it might start a big trend, or your guests may be asking you to host one every year for Halloween!

Formal Halloween Party Invitations & Ideas

Friday, September 14th, 2012

Happy Friday, everyone!  Looks like it’s going to be the last warm weekend we have in North Carolina, as the cooler weather seems to be on it’s way.  This means it’s time to start thinking about the fall season and all of the fun events you have to plan before the end of the year.  While browsing through Pinterest the other day, I found some great inspiration for a formal Halloween party, and wanted to share some ideas with our readers.

A formal Halloween party, or a Halloween dinner party, is a great idea for adults wanting to spend some time with family and friends during the fall season.  Fall and Halloween give off such a beautiful color palette which makes party planning and decorating easy, with hues of orange, black, white and red.  Invite your friends over for a formal Halloween dinner party at your home, and create some eerie or vintage ambiance as your guests arrive.

In the above collage, you’ll see a bunch of different ideas to give you inspiration for your fall party.  Set the scene by decorating your front porch or entrance way with Halloween themed lanterns, pumpkins and a branching fall wreath.  As your guests enter your home, dazzle them with a dark and eerie table spread featuring poisonous wine, skeleton place cards, deadly cocktails and a gorgeous black table spread with orange napkins and gourd table centerpieces.  Offer up some tasty treats with mini deserts served in shot glasses, Halloween cupcakes or cake pops.  You can even have a themed dinner with some daring Halloween recipes.

Set the tone for your party with a formal Halloween party invitation, like the Halloween pocket invitation shown in the collage.  Our pocket style Halloween invitations are perfect for setting the scene for a formal Halloween dinner party with a sleek pocket with an elegant, vintage or patterned insert card to carry your important party details.  The pocket is brightened by a colored silk pre-tied bow, which is available in black, orange and white.  We also have utterly spooky Halloween party invitations which are great for creating an elegant Halloween affair.

Decorating Ideas for Fall

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

There’s something so refreshing about the fall season – maybe its the relief of the cooler weather after our hot summer months, maybe it’s the nostalgic feeling you get when you take the kids back to the same pumpkin patch you visited as a child or maybe it’s the reminder that some of our favorite holidays are just around the corner.

Being a holiday fanatic, I am always decorating my home for the upcoming holiday season, be it hanging an American Flag on the porch for Independence Day or stringing Christmas lights around the trees in my front yard for the holiday season.  What do you do to decorate and celebrate fall at your house?

While browsing one of our vendor’s Pinterest pages, Modern Posh, we noticed this amazing pumpkin decoration idea, which was shared from decorating ideas on Lauren Conrad’s website.  I thought this amazingly easy craft idea would make for the perfect decoration for a Halloween party, or an even better backdrop accessory for taking fall family photos for your Halloween greeting cards.

Perfectly elegant, sophisticated, and mildly dark, all you have to do is take a medium size pumpkin or gourd and place it into a lace stocking, like the black one shown, and then tie off the ends.  You could even use multiple pumpkins painted different fall colors from orange to cream or white.  I can image this gorgeous decoration sitting on my front porch or on the glass table in my entryway as you walk into my home, acting as a welcoming fall decoration.

What other cute ideas do you have for the fall season?  Share your ideas with us as we break into fall…and remember, it’s never too early to start planning your own Halloween party or taking pictures for those adorable Halloween greeting cards.  Make it a full-on pumpkin theme using the above idea and you’ll have an elegant, antique and vintage fall piece which will have all of your friends, family and neighbors wondering just how you are SO creative this fall season!
